The French government is considering taxing soft drinks in the country, according to local reports.
Daily newspaper Les Echos said today (21 July) that the authorities were desperately looking to reduce France's health deficit, which is set to reach EUR6.3bn (US$7.9bn) this year.
Soft drinks in the country could be taxed as much as EUR0.06 per litre, the paper said. The Government can expect to take in around EUR220m a year if the anti-obesity tax comes into force.
