ARG: Government extends drinks price controls

The Argentinean government has extended price controls for the drink sector until December next year.

"We committed to maintain the current price scheme in the (drinks) domestic market," Argentina's Secretary of Interior Commerce, Guillermo Moreno said, according to the government's website.

According to the Dow Jones news agency, the move is part of the government's effort to bring Argentina's inflation rate, which last year stood at 12.5%, to one digit. It follows other similar agreements with other industries, including the food, retail and wholesale sectors.

Officials at Quinsa, Argentina's largest brewer, could not be reached for comment as just-drinks went to press.
