Global Brands has followed up its acquisition of Inspirit Brands this month with the formation of a premium wines division.

The UK-based drinks firm, which owns the VK Vodka Kick RTD brand, said late last week that Richard Wilson, previously sales director of Montana Wines at Seagram Spirits and Wine Group and business unit director at Hardys, has been appointed head of wine development of the unit.

Global Brands has also agreed a tie-up with South Africa's Intra International Trading, which will see Global Brands introduce Intra's Adoro wine brand in the UK.

In return, Intra will distribute Global Brand's Kick Energy and VK in South Africa’s core markets, including Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria and the Congo.

In addition, the company will also introduce the Marilyn Merlot collection from Bordeaux to its portfolio.

“Our latest expansion into the wine market will cement Global Brands’ reputation as a growing company with the capability to build brands across a diverse range of categories, and offer retailers choice against multi-national brand owners,” said Global Brands' managing director, Derek Mackey.

“People are still willing to pay for quality, and we hope to provide this with the launch of Global Brands premium wines division.”
