Fortune Brands has announced an addition to its board of directors. The US conglomerate said on Friday (13 January) that A.D. David Mackay had been elected to the board with immediate effect.

Mackay, 50, is president and chief operating officer of Kellogg Company. He also serves on the Kellogg Company board of directors, and prior to assuming his current position, he led the company's US, UK and Australia operations.

"We are delighted to add to our board a respected business leader with such tremendous experience in the global consumer packaged goods arena," said Fortune chairman and CEO Norm Wesley.

"We believe David's insights and experience will serve our shareholders well, and on behalf of his fellow directors, I'm pleased to welcome him to the board of Fortune Brands."

The election increases the size of Fortune's board to eleven members.
