Embotelladora Andina has raised its profile in Brazil through the purchase of Ipiranga

Embotelladora Andina has lined up the purchase of Brazilian Coca-Cola bottler Companhia de Bebidas Ipiranga.

The Chile-headquartered bottler confirmed late last week that it will buy Ipiranga for BRL1.22bn (US$548m) via its Rio de Janeiro Refrescos subsidiary. The acquisition, which has been approved by the boards of both companies, is expected to complete before the end of the year.

Ipiranga operates in the Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais states, and reported volume sales last year of 89.3m unit cases.

“This transaction will allow Andina to continue consolidating its leading position in the bottling business for products licensed by The Coca-Cola Co in Brazil, and creating value and new growth opportunities for its shareholders and collaborators,” the company said.

Last year, Andina lined up the merger of its operations in Chile with rival Embotelladoras Coca-Cola Polar.
