E&J Gallo has purchased The Ranch Winery in St Helena, California.

The Ranch is located close to Gallo's Louis M Martini and William Hill wineries.

The deal includes around 70 acres of land as well as 4.6m cases of bottling capacity and 8m gallons of storage. The winery has a crushing capacity of 30,000 tons. As part of the agreement, Gallo said it would honour all contracts with existing Ranch Winery customers.

Roger Nabedian, senior VP & general manager of Gallo's premium wine division, said: "This purchase supports the company's continued growth in the super premium and luxury wine segment."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The sale is scheduled to close at the end of this month.

The company already owns 14 wineries in California and Washington.

Earlier this year, E&J Gallo purchased Talbott Vineyards, in California's Santa Lucia Highlands, for an undisclosed sum.
