The chairman of the Edrington Group has been awarded a knighthood as part of the Queen's New Year's honours list.

Ian Good has been granted the accolade in recognition of his services to industry in Scotland, the company said today (4 January).

Good joined Edrington in 1969, has served on the group's board since 1979 and has been chairman since 1994. He also led the company through the acquisition of Highland Distillers in 1999, which led to Edrington doubling its sales immediately.

"He has played a leading role in the affairs of the Scotch whisky industry, being a former chairman of the Scotch Whisky Association," the company said. "He is also a former chairman of the Scottish Industrial Development Advisory Board."
