The Finnish state alcohol retail monopoly, Alko Oy, reported a profit of €27m (US$23.7m) for 2001, down from €34.3m in 2000.

Turnover at the group, which operates 284 stores in 202 localities across Finland, rose by 6.9% to €1.03 billion (US$903m). Volumes also rose by about 6% to 97.3m litres. Operating profit totalled €33m (US$28.9m) in 2001.
