The first chief executive of the UK's Drinkaware Trust has surprisingly stepped down after less than a year in the position.

Jean Collingwood, who was appointed as the drinks industry body's first permanent chief executive in July, quit the post late last month, a spokesperson for Drinkaware confirmed to just-drinks today (2 May).

The spokesperson declined to give further details behind Collingwood's decision. "Ms Collingwood stood down from the position of chief executive a couple of weeks ago," the spokesperson said. "A replacement will be appointed in due course."

When appointed to the post last year, Collingwood, who had previously been chief executive of Wheelchair Rugby as well as CEO of Ingenious Group, said: ""As a social marketer this is a unique opportunity to play a leading role at a key point in Drinkaware's establishment. I am really looking forward to developing partnerships with all of our stakeholders as we drive forward Drinkaware."

Drinkaware is a voluntary body comprising officials from the drinks industry and the health sector educating consumers on the dangers of the misuse of alcohol.
