Dr Pepper is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year

Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG) is to remove the high fructose corn syrup from its Dr Pepper beverage in the US, as part of the brand's 125th anniversary celebrations.

The temporary move, announced earlier this week, will see the ingredient replaced by sugar.

The tweaked version will be available in the US from this week until September, in six collectible cans.

In addition to the anniversary cans, DPSG launched its Dr Pepper Cherry flavour during Super Bowl XLIV.
