Distell, BrandPhoenix tie-up offers one-stop shop for South African wine in UK

Distell has acquired a significant stake in UK-based distributor BrandPhoenix in a bid to further strengthen its presence in the UK.

The South African wine and spirits giant declined to disclose the sum paid or the exact size of the stake when questioned today (16 May) by just-drinks. But, it said that the deal will help both companies to advance their joint footprint in the UK.

BrandPhoenix is the brand owner of FirstCape, a joint-venture with five co-operative cellars and 200 supplying farms in the South African Cape’s Breede River Valley.

BrandPhoenix director, Steve Rosser, said that the company is planning an aggressive growth campaign for South African wines in the UK multiple retail channel. Distell wines such as Nederburg, Two Oceans and JC le Roux sparkling wines will form part of that push.

Carina Gous, head of Distell’s wine division, said that the tie-up offers UK retailers a one-stop shop for South African wine.
