UK: Dispute threatens Interbrew deliveries
By just-drinks.com editorial team | 7 September 2004
A dispute between a union and a logistics firm could disrupt deliveries of Interbrew products in the west of England. Staff at Gloucester-based Tradeteam, which delivers beer for Interbrew UK, are threatening industrial action after a decision by Tradeteam to 'rearrange' their contracts.
Union leaders say this means pay cuts of up to £3,000 a year, altered work patterns and worsened terms and conditions for around 75 staff at the Tradeteam depot in Gloucester. An informal ballot has now been launched at the site to gauge employees' feelings. A formal ballot could then follow, possibly leading to a strike.
In a statement, Colin Pedrick, Interbrew UK's managing director, on-trade sales, said: "We are aware of recent press articles regarding the Gloucester distribution depot operated by our logistics partner, Tradeteam. We understand from Tradeteam that they are conducting discussions with their staff and union representatives and that at this stage, no firm agreements or decisions have been reached.
"Tradeteam have confirmed that further meetings and close consultations are continuing with the aim of reaching an agreement," Pedrick concluded.
Tradeteam was unavailable for comment, as just-drinks went to press.
