US: Discount Canadian brewer buys Huber

US beer maker Joseph Huber Brewing Co. has been sold to a smaller Canadian rival, Mountain Crest Brewing Co., according to local reports.

Mountain Crest said earlier this week that it was buying the 160-year-old brewer for an undisclosed price.

Mountain Crest has reportedly become one of a raft of small Canadian brewers that has enjoyed strong growth on the back of cut-price beer sales. In 2003, the brewer struck a deal with Huber that saw the Wisconsin brewer produce its beers under licence.

As part of the deal, Mountain Crest is reportedly buying the Huber, Rhinelander and Wisconsin Club beer brands and the Blumers soda brands.
