Diageo is to launch a limited edition Guinness for the US market to mark the beer's 250th anniversary.

The special edition Guinness stout will be available for around six months nationally from 24 April with a suggested retail price of between US$7.99-$8.49 for a six-pack.

The offering will also be available in draught kegs, Diageo said today (15 April).

The commemorative stout is carbonated, not nitrogenated like the traditional Guinness Draught. As a result, it has a near-white frothy stout beer head, unlike Guinness Draught, and is poured on draught in a one-part pour or from a bottle.

"The Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout has a different look and taste than anything our fans have ever experienced, but still retains the familiar character for which Guinness is so well known," said Fergal Murray, Guinness master brewer.

Earlier this month, Diageo Great Britain launched a TV advert to mark the 250th anniversary of Arthur Guinness signing the lease on the St James's Gate brewery in Ireland.

The advert first aired during the England vs Ukraine football match on 1 April and is one of a series of Guinness advertisements scheduled to launch this year.
