Diageo North America spent US$460,000 on lobbying US government officials in the third quarter, including a campaign to reduce tax on distilled spirits.

The figure was published in a compulsory filing by Diageo North America to the US House of Representatives.

It said that the drinks giant lobbied the President's Office for a tax reduction on distilled spirits. It also urged the executive to exempt the natural ageing process from rules on the production period for distilled spirits.

Diageo also lobbied officials on responsible drinking issues and free trade, according to the filing, which covers the three months ended 30 September.

Among those areas of government targeted were the President's Office, House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as the departments of Health & Human services, Treaury and Agriculture.
