INDIA: Diageo remains tight-lipped on global whisky launch
Diageo has remained silent on reports that it is planning to launch one of its global whisky brands in India by the end of the fiscal year and potentially enter the wine market.
Speaking to just-drinks today (14 August), Diageo shunned the reports as "purely speculation", despite local reports this week citing Diageo-Khaitan CEO Raju Vaziraney as confirming the news.
Diageo-Khaitan, the Indian joint-venture between Diageo and Radico Khaitan, recently launched its Indian Made Foreign Liquor Masterstroke brand in India capturing over 10% share in the whisky segment, reports have claimed.
According to reports, Vaziraney said: "Our immediate focus will be on consolidating our whisky brands in the India. But as and we take up the next phase of expansion, we will look into entering the wine category."
Vaziraney was also cited saying that Diageo-Khaitan is exploring retail options as well as distribution networks to support its new product.
