Diageo Great Britain has launched a TV advert to mark the 250th anniversary of Arthur Guinness signing the lease on the St James's Gate brewery in Ireland.

The advert first aired during the England vs Ukraine football match on Wednesday (1 April) and is one of a series of Guinness advertisements scheduled to launch this year.

Paul Cornell, marketing manager for Guinness at Diageo Great Britain, said: "Running throughout April and May, the advertisement is set to drive footfall in outlet from people who want to enjoy a great pint of Guinness whilst making the most of Easter and the Bank holidays, as well as the culmination of the domestic sporting season."

The 20-second TV advertisement was created by advertising agency AMV and directed by Charlie Stubbings, a director behind many well-known food adverts.

Earlier this month, Diageo announced plans to bring back a number of Guiness television adverts as part of its Guinness Classic ads campaign.

The next phase of the campaign, featuring previous Guinness ads 'The Island' and 'Anticipation', will launch this month.
