The former executive director of Diageo Scotland has been appointed chairman of Scotland Food & Drink.

The organisation, which promotes the collective resources of the food and drink industries, said today (12 July) that, as chairman, Allan Burns will help Scotland gain a global reputation as "the land of food and drink."

Rural affairs and environment cabinet secretary Richard Lochhead said: "With Scotland having some of the best natural produce in the world, it is absolutely vital that we build on the ongoing success of the sector. By bringing the whole supply chain together we are well positioned to do that, as Allan Burns has a wealth of experience and an outstanding track record in this area, particularly with Diageo."

Burns added: "My immediate tasks are to meet the key players, recruit members, appoint a chief executive and executive team and get the organisation up and running."

Scotland Food & Drink said that it is now looking to get backing from other leading organisations and that work is already underway to recruit more professionals from food and drink-related businesses.
