Diageo has opened its latest Johnnie Walker House retail outlet in Mumbai

Diageo has extended its Johnnie Walker House experience to the global Travel Retail sector by launching the concept at Mumbai airport today, with another set to open in Taiwan.

The retail space is located in the departure area of T2 at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Explaining the reasons for the choice in venue in India, Doug Bagley, Diageo's Global Travel and Middle East MD, told just-drinks that India is a "significant market" for the global Scotch whisky brand.

The company is targeting the 33m international travellers who will be passing through one of the world's busiest airports. Johnnie Walker has seen 25% volume growth in India in the last year.

Another Johnnie Walker House is set to open at Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport, Taipei, later this month.

The Johnnie Walker House concept was launched in Shanghai, China in 2011 and has since rolled out to Beijing and Seoul, South Korea

The houses are designed to encapsulate the history, provenance and "pioneering spirit" of the brand, according to Diageo.
