Deidre Mahlan will continue as CFO for Diageo until a replacement has been appointed

The CFO of Diageo, Deirdre Mahlan, has been confirmed as the replacement for Larry Schwartz as head of the company's North America division.

Earlier this month, the group announced that Schwartz will retire at the end of the year. At the time, Diageo said a replacement for Schwartz would be detailed in due course.

Mahlan, who became group CFO in 2010, will subsequently become president of Diageo North America. She will continue in her current role until a new incumbent has been appointed.

"Deirdre has been an exceptional CFO and has the skills, together with experience of the market, to lead the next stage of growth in North America," said CEO Ivan Menezes.

Prior to becoming group CFO, Mahlan held the same post at the North America unit.
