Diageo, the world's leading wine and spirits company, said yesterday that, effective immediately, it has awarded its global advertising business for its Smirnoff line of ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages to Bartle Bogle Hegerty London.

Diageo had already announced the appointment of BBH, New York as its US agency of record for Smirnoff Ice in November 2004.

"We chose BBH because of their consistently outstanding creative work for Diageo on Baileys and Johnnie Walker, and for the very strong new global campaign idea they have delivered for Smirnoff Ice," said James Thompson, president of global marketing for Smirnoff.

The new campaign for Smirnoff Ice will launch in Spring 2005.

Leo Burnett Worldwide will support BBH, providing network services to Diageo in-market companies in countries where BBH is not present.

J. Walter Thompson will continue as global agency of record for Smirnoff vodka.

"We are 100% committed to working with JWT on the global Smirnoff vodka account.  This business is not up for review," said Thompson. "We are delighted with the creative work that JWT is developing for Smirnoff vodka.  We continue to see JWT as a true collaborator in realizing our plans to take Smirnoff vodka to new heights in the coming year."
