Danone to build bottled water R&D centre

Danone is investing around EUR6m (US$8.6m) to build an innovation centre for bottled water on the site of its Evian bottling plant south-east France.

Danone confirmed to just-drinks this week that construction is underway on the 4,000 square-metre Centre International d’Expertise de l’Eau (CIELE), which is scheduled to enter service early 2012.

It will house a laboratory, R&D units and the bottling plant’s quality control services. It will be manned by 60 staff, currently working at existing facilities at the site, in Haute-Savoie.

“The centre is designed to further the expertise of Evian and other subsidiaries in Danone’s division in a number of  areas including testing, packaging and quality control,” Danone said.
