FRANCE/JAPAN: Danone linked with water sale to Kirin, Asahi

Danone has entered talks with Japanese drinks companies, thought to include Kirin Holdings and Asahi Breweries, over the sale of its water businesss, according to a report.

The Evian and Volvic bottled water group is in "early-stage" talks with Japan's drinks giants over a possible deal, the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday (9 November). Citing "people familiar with the matter", the paper said that a sale could fetch up to US$7bn.

Danone could not be immediately reached for comment.
