The French-based food and drink group, Danone, is reported to be at an advanced stage in negotiations to buy the mineral water brand, Himalayan. The established brand, originally owned by Dadi Balsara, was sold to a Mauritius-based consortium last year. It has been reported that technical staff from Danone have already inspected the Himalayan plant at Solan.

Last year, Danone made an unsuccessful bid for the Bisleri brand and the company was recently granted permission by the Indian government to set up a representative office in India, concentrating its activities primarily in the water business.
