Another European purchase for Danone

Danone has confirmed that its joint venture in France, Danone-Chiquita, has acquired smoothie producer Immédia for an undisclosed sum.

The partnership, 51%-owned by Danone, was set up in March this year with Chiquita Brands International to market fruit-based drinks for the European market. It is designed provide a platform for Danone to develop fruit-based products and extend its potential for growth in Europe driven by Chiquita’s Just Fruit in a Bottle drinks.

“Just Fruit in a Bottle is currently distributed in several European countries but not in France so the acquisition of Immédia will extend our market coverage of the continent,” a Danone official told just-drinks today (25 August).

Set up in 2003 and headquartered in Paris, Immédia generated turnover of around EUR4m (US$5.06m) last year.

Last month, Danone signed an agreement to take a majority stake in Swedish probiotic health drink firm ProViva.
