Pre-tax profits for one of Russia's largest vodka and liquor producers Cristall rose 73.6% in the first half to R290.263m (US$9.6m) according to a report by Interfax.

The report also said that the company's first half sales earnings rose 30.4% to R3.669bn compared to the first half of last year.

Cristall, which plans to produce 100m litres of alcohol this year has reported a turn out of 44.1m litres for the first half of 2001 (27.2% more than the first half of last year). It produced 87.7m litres of alcohol in 2000 and 67.9m litres the year before.
