A Luxembourg court has rejected the suit brought by Heineken which attempted to block the $600m merger deal agreed between the Argentinean brewing group, Quilmes Industrial (Quinsa), and Brazilian drinks corporation, AmBev.

Heineken alleged that the deal agreed between Quinsa and AmBev in May was in breach of a contract it had with Quinsa giving it first refusal on any merger with its Argentine joint venture partner. Heineken owns 15% of Quinsa and the two have been operating together since 1984.

Heineken was seeking an injunction in the court in Luxembourg, where Quinsa is incorporated, to block the deal for six months to give it time to bring a case against the merger at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.
