Corby will continue to handle Pernod's flagship vodka brand in Canada

Corby Distilleries has extended its deal to handle Pernod Ricard's Absolut vodka brand in Canada for a further eight years.

The group said it has paid CAD10.3m (US$10m) to Pernod subsidiary, The Absolut Company Aktiebolag, to exclusively represent the brand in Canada until 29 September, 2021. The initial link-up was agreed in November 2011.

George McCarthy, Corby's chairman, said the deal will allow the company to "continue pursuing our strategy of focusing upon premium brands to deliver value to shareholders."

Pernod indirectly owns “in excess” of 50% of the issued and outstanding voting class A common shares of Corby and is considered to be the Canadian group's ultimate parent.

A year ago, Corby gave Pernod the rights to handle its Wiser’s Canadian whisky and Polar Ice vodka brands in the US.
