CANADA: Contaminated carrot juice paralyses two

A line of potentially contaminated carrot juice is still on shelves in Canada, a week after the makers issued a product recall.

The juice, produced by Bolthouse Farms in the country, has paralysed two Canadians. The company's carrot juice is thought to be contaminated with the botulism toxin.

Bolthouse Farms 100% Carrot Juice, Earthbound Farm Organic Carrot Juice and President's Choice Organics 100% Pure Carrot Juice with a best-before date of 11 November were ordered off shelves after four cases of botulism were linked to toxic carrot juice in the US.

The country celebrated Thanksgiving on Monday of this week, and the four-day weekend enjoyed by many may have contributed to the lack of awareness of the situation.

The carrot juice was bought from stores in Toronto, public health officials from the city told local reporters. The two paralysed Canadians are both from the Toronto area.
