A number of bottles of Constellation Brand's Svedka vodka are being recalled in four US states over fears of bottle defects.

The company said yesterday (3 October) that a problem with a “very small” number of 1.75-litre clear glass Svedka bottles could result in a “small piece of loose glass settling in the bottom of the bottle”. The voluntary recall has been initiated in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Missouri and North Dakota.

The company stressed that there have not been any consumer complaints or injuries, but that the recall is a precaution.

Yeaterday, Constellation, which acquired the Svedka brand in 2007, also announced healthy half-year sales and profits, helped by its full acquisition of beer distributor Crown Imports in June, due to the fall-out from Anheuser-Busch InBev's US$20.1bn takeover of Grupo Modelo
