A road trailer carrying around 5,400 bottles of Dom Pérignon Champagne has been stolen from a logistics park near the port of Le Havre, in Normandy.

According to initial eye witness accounts, the theft took place in broad daylight as the Champagne was waiting to be loaded on to a ship bound for a foreign destination. Thieves attached a truck to the trailer, making off with the load unhindered.

The Dom Perignon shipment had an estimated value of around EUR413,000 (US$521,530).
