Combined sales of beer, happoshu and third category beer in Japan registered a slight rise last month, according to recent figures. Shipments from Kirin, Suntory, Asahi, Sapporo and Orion Breweries in the month of October were up by 2.5% year-on-year, the third consecutive monthly increase.

Sales totalled 39.968m cases for the month.

While shipments of beer from the brewers increased by 2% to 22.603m cases, sales of happoshu dropped by 28.4% to 10.535m cases, falling for the 15th consecutive month. Third category beer shipments rose 3.2-fold to 6.83m cases.
