The Coca-Cola Co. has dismissed accusations that it has inflated sales figures, according to press reports. As reported on Friday, three former Coke officials have claimed that they had witnessed the company overstating financial results by shipping excess beverage concentrate to Japanese bottlers.
The claim, made in a Wall Street Journal article, led a Coca-Cola spokesman to tell Agence France Presse there was no basis for the accusations.
Coca-Cola is currently under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission into accusations made by a former employee, Matthew Whitley, who accused the company last year of inflating earnings.
