RUSSIA: Coke bottler mulls plans to produce kvas
Coca-Cola HBC is "exploring" the idea of producing the traditional Russian bread drink kvas.
The Coca-Cola Co. bottler told just-drinks today (2 February) that it is mulling plans to move into the kvas market, which is said to be worth around US$215m a year.
Reports in Russia have claimed that CCHBC has been in talks with a number of local players over a possible venture. Brewers Efes Brewing International and SUN InBev were named as possible partners in a report today (2 February) by Russian newspaper Kommersant.
However, a CCHBC spokesman declined to comment on whether talks had taken place. He added: "CCHBC as a company is all about expanding its portfolio to local tastes and kvas is a popular local beverage. It's something we're exploring," he said.
Efes Brewing International officials declined to comment while Sun InBev representatives could not be reached as just-drinks went to press.
