Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling have applied to the European Commission for permission to buy Multon, according to press reports. Vedomosti business daily said today (18 March) that the two companies have filed an application to acquire the Russian juice producer.

The paper quoted Commission documents as saying that it would consider the request to buy Multon, which controls a quarter of the Russian juice market, before April 22.

Earlier this week, Kommersant newspaper said that Coke had been given the approval of the Russian Anti-monopoly Committee to buy the Russian company through its affiliate Star Bottling Ltd.

The acquisition is widely-expected to be worth around US$500m.
