JAPAN: Coca-Cola West H1 profit plunges

Coca-Cola West Holdings has posted a stark plunge in net income for the first six months of this year.

The group said today that net income for the half-year to 30 June slid by 32% to JPY1.73bn (US$15m). Sales for the period also slipped, by a less worrying 4.8% to JPY111.7bn.

For the full year, Coke West forecast sales of JPY333bn and net income of JPY7.4bn.

Last month, Coca-Cola West completed a merger with local bottler Kinki Coca-Cola Bottling. The new company is now the country's second-largest soft drinks producer.

Kinki yesterday said that its sales for the first half of this year were down by 5.2% year-on-year to JPY81.6bn. The company saw net profit - of JPY1.3bn - last year perform a u-turn, registering a loss for the six-month period of JPY865m.
