Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) has pledged to continue using recycled plastic despite selling off its stake in a UK PET recycling plant.

Investment firm Aurelius has acquired Eco Plastics for an undisclosed sum, it was announced today. As part of the agreement, CCE pulled out of its joint venture with Eco Plastics, Continuum Recycling. CCE said it was “pleased” by the deal.

However, the bottler added that it will continue to source recycled PET from Eco Plastics under a “long-term” agreement.

“This new arrangement will ensure that CCE continues to use a minimum of 25% recycled PET in our plastic bottles in Great Britain, allowing us to deliver on our commitments to set the standard for sustainable packaging,” the company said.

Continuum Recycling was a UK joint-venture set up between CCE and Eco Plastics in September 2011.
