Coca-Cola India is reportedly in talks to create a joint venture in the country with Tata Tea.

Reports from the Financial Express late last week claimed that the companies are in advanced talks, with a view to entering the enhanced water and iced tea categories in the country.

Coca-Cola India's head, Atul Singh, has held talks with senior Tata Tea officials in Delhi, the paper said, citing unnamed sources close to the situation.

"Recognising the tremendous growth potential for value-added water in India, the company is now joining hands with Coke to enter this niche sector," an analyst in Mumbai was cited as saying in the report.

No-one was immediately available to clarify the reports at Coca-Cola India when contacted by just-drinks today (13 November).

Earlier this year, Tata sold its 30% stake in Energy Brands to The Coca-Cola Co. for US$1.2bn.
