Coca-Cola Life will launch in the UK in September

The Coca-Cola Company plans to roll-out its stevia-sweetened low-calorie brand Coca-Cola Life to the UK as a response to “changing lifestyle trends”.

The cola, first launched in Argentina and Chile last year, will be released in the UK in September, Coca-Cola's Great Britain unit said today (11 June). It will be the brand's first European market.

A 330ml can of Coca-Cola Life contains 89 calories and is sweetened with a blend of sugar and natural sweetener stevia. It is Coca-Cola's first cola to use stevia.

James Quincey, Coca-Cola Europe's president, said the brand is aimed at meeting “changing lifestyle trends”. He added: “We have innovated to provide consumers with a new option with fewer calories.”

Under the UK Government's public health Responsibility Deal, Coca-Cola Great Britain has committed to cutting average calories per litre in its CSD portfolio by 5% by the end of this year.

Quincey added: “As we work with others across society to address the public health challenge of obesity in the UK and across Europe, we will continue to take actions that help people balance their lifestyles.”

Coca-Cola Life will be released in a 330ml can, 500ml PET bottle, 1.75-litre PET bottle, 6 x 330ml can multipack, and 8 x 330ml can multipack. The launch will be backed by a digital, outdoor and print marketing campaign.

In March, Coca-Cola's CFO Gary Fayard said Life will be launched in "different markets around the world this year"

Last year, Coca-Cola relaunched its Sprite brand in the UK as a new low-calorie product using stevia
