UK: Coca-Cola Co signs Rooney for Powerade promo

By | 16 February 2010

Coca-Cola Great Britain (GB) has signed up Manchester United and England football star Wayne Rooney for a push on its Powerade sports drink around this year's FIFA World Cup.

A 30-second Powerade advert featuring Rooney will air in the UK tonight (16 February), during Sky Sports coverage of the UEFA Champions League clash between AC Milan and Manchester United.

The ad marks the launch of Coca-Cola GB's FIFA World Cup campaign for Powerade, which will be the official and exclusive drink available to players during games at the tournament, to be held in South Africa in June.

"The 2010 FIFA World Cup is the biggest sporting event this year and is an incredible platform for us to showcase the brand and its benefits to the Great Britain audience," said Coca-Cola GB marketing director Cathryn Sleight.

The theme of the advert is Rooney vs Rooney, featuring one Rooney hydrated with water and the other with Powerade.

Alongside the ad, Coca-Cola GB is launching an on-pack promotion. Consumers can enter a draw to win tickets to either the World Cup or an international rugby match, or the chance to train at either a football camp in South Africa or the elite rugby camps of the England and Wales national teams.

The offer runs until 28 February.

The Coca-Cola Co is an official FIFA World Cup partner. See below to view the Rooney v Rooney advert.
