The North Carolina-based Coke bottler, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, reported a first-quarter profit of $3.4m, against a loss of $1.8m in the first quarter of last year.

Net sales rose by 4.8% to $283.2m. Within that figure, contract sales to other bottlers rose by 16% and fountain sales were 10% higher.

Coca-Cola Bottling said that its overall CSD business grew by 1% in the first quarter, boosted by the introduction of Diet Coke with Lemon. Sales of the main Diet Coke brand rose by 3% while sales of Mello Yello were 2% higher.
