Warren Edwardes, the founding chairman of the UK's Association of Small Direct Wine Merchants (ASDW) is standing down.

He is being succeeded by Nick Dobson, the association confirmed yesterday (6 March).

"As my term of office of chairman closes I am delighted to report that the ASDW is now a year old as a formally constituted organisation and in rude health," Edwardes said. "I look forward to continued progress under the guidance of chairman Nick Dobson in his year of office."

The ASDW is a group of independent wine merchants who sell directly to the general public via mail order and the internet in the UK. The association was founded with its four initial members in mid-2005 with the original purpose of lobbying against the Licensing Act 2003 which it believed damaged the interests of such businesses.

The group's membership has now swelled to 23, and the ASDW has also joined the UK's Wine & Spirit Trade Association.
