CHILE: CCU enjoys prosperous H1

Compania Cervecerias Unidas has recorded a healthy rise in first-half profit.
The Chilean drinks company said yesterday (2 August) that net profit for the first six months of the year came in at CLP23.9bn (US$44.2m), an increase of 13.6% on the corresponding period a year earlier.
In a filing with the securities regulator, SVS, the company also posted a lift in sales, to CLP251.4bn from CLP233.8bn in the corresponding period a year ago. Operating profit followed suit, reaching CLP32.7bn from CLP31.1bn.
Earlier this year CCU, which produces beer, soft drinks, water and nectars, saw net profit in 2005 hold steady, rising by just 2.4% to CLP48bn.
