C&C Group's deal to acquire the Tennent's lager brand from Anheuser-Busch InBev will not be investigated by the Competition Commission in the UK.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) said yesterday (30 November) that it will not refer the deal to the Competition Commission.

C&C Group acquired Tennent's, as well as A-B InBev brewing operations in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, for GBP180m (US$286m) this year.

In October, the OFT said it would seek comments on the deal from interested parties. A spokesperson for the regulator told just-drinks this was "normal procedure".

Yesterday, C&C Group announced it would buy Gaymer Cider Company from Constellation Brands for GBP45m.
