Carlsberg has teamed up with Nordmann Group in Germany to create what it claims to be the biggest drinks distributor in the north of the country.

The brewer confirmed today (7 April) that its German wholesale unit, Göttsche Getränke, has formed an alliance with Nordmann to create Nordic GmbH, a 50-50 joint venture covering Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen and Bremen in the north.

The joint venture will distribute all of Carlsberg Deutschland's brands, including Duckstein, Holsten, Astra, Lübz and the Carlsberg brand.

Nordic GmbH will have an annual turnover in excess of EUR400m (US$530.8m) and will employ around 700 people, Carlsberg said.

"The alliance with Nordmann is expected to increase sales and reduce costs, as Carlsberg Deutschland's brands will now also be sold through current Nordmann's outlets, mainly in on-trade," Carlsberg said.

The joint venture is subject to approval by the country's anti-trust commission.
