Truvia is being launched in Venezuela

Cargill has continued the expansion of its stevia-based product Truvia by launching in Venezuela, due to "growing consumer demand".

The company, which produces Truvia through a partnership with The Coca-Cola Co, said late last week that it now operates in seven countries on three continents, including the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Mexico. Zanna McFerson, Truvia's VP & business director, said its expansion was "in response to the growing consumer demand for great-tasting, natural, zero-calorie sweetness".

Around 50m US households have bought products made with stevia-based sweeteners, up from 43m from a one year ago, the company said.

Last November, the European Commission formally approved stevia sweeteners for use within the European Union.
