Having reported a 14% rise in net operating profit after tax, Australian wine group, BRL Hardy, is discouraging any predatory takeover moves. The company's managing director, Stephen Millar, said that any company wishing to take over the company "would have to have pretty deep pockets".

In spite of the fact that New Zealand beer and wine group, Lion Nathan, has been linked with a bid for BRL Hardy, Millar said that he was not aware of any interested parties, adding that Lion Nathan "was not that much bigger than us".
