Brick Brewing Co is investing CAD9m (US$8.2m) in expanding its production operations after completing the sale of its original brewhouse in Waterloo, Ontario.

The money will be spent on upgrading its site in Kitchener, Ontario, which will become a “fully integrated brewing, packaging and distribution facility”. The project is expected to be completed by October 2015.

Brick said it is targetting cost-savings of CAD1m per year once the project is finished.

"This investment will simplify our operation and enables a step-change in efficiency, productivity, quality and cost reduction for us,” said George Croft, Brick's president & CEO. “In order for Brick to remain competitive with the large brewers, this is a step we needed to take.”

The brewer completed the CAD4m sale of its Waterloo site to real estate management firm, HIP Developments, yesterday. The two compaines have agreed a lease deal, allowing Brick to stay in the building in “the short term”.

The deal was first announced last month.
