Spanish bottled water has seen a 2% rise in production to over 5.2 billion litres in 2004, according to new figures fresh from ANEABE, representatives of Spanish water bottling companies.

Spanish citizens are buying on average 199 litres each a year, from some 106 brands of bottled water produced within the country.

The majority of bottled water consumed is mineral water accounting for a massive 92% of bottles produced in 2003. The remainder consists of spring water, with a 5.4% share with purified water holding just over 3%.
