French wine and spirits group Belvedere will this month unveil a EUR4m (US$5.1m) winery in Bulgaria, according to local reports.
The Katerina Vineyards winery, situated close to the border with Greece, will formally open at the end of the month, Reuters said today (12 September).
The 3m-litre winery is the latest stage of Belvedere's investment in Bulgarian wine. The company has already planted around 300ha of vineyards in the Eastern European country and plans to add another 100ha next year, the report said.
Belvedere's Bulgarian arm owns the Sakar, Domaine Menada and Oriahovitsa wineries, as well as Vinimpex, the former Bulgarian wine export monopoly.
